On the first and third Sundays of each month, WoodsEdge is honored to host a group of boys through a ministry partner called The Champion Project (TCP). TCP connects youth in foster care with faith-based communities to instill community, stability, and consistency in their lives. TCP’s vision is that each church will create a safe and loving environment for their local youth in foster care by welcoming them not only into their doors but into their lives by demonstrating the unconditional love of God.
WoodsEdge has a group of trained mentors who sit with the boys at Sunday services, eat lunch together after the service, and share a gospel-themed activity together before heading to the Student Building for basketball, air hockey, and ping pong. The boys absolutely love their time at WoodsEdge, and as our mentors have opened their hearts to love on these boys and build a relationship with them, the feeling is so mutual! God has been so gracious for opening this door of service with The Champion Project to these wonderful kids who have faced so much trauma and difficulty throughout their lives.
One Sunday in August, after enjoying a delicious meal from Dickey’s BBQ, the boys enjoyed a presentation by Hank Hough from Kingdom Dogs ministry. You could have heard a pin drop as these boys were enthralled and completely fascinated by Hank’s masterful demonstration of love and obedience from his dogs. Through his special relationship with his dogs, Hank conveyed biblical truth in a way the boys could understand without being "preachy." Please pray for the seeds of the gospel that were planted in the boys’ hearts to be watered and to grow!
WoodsEdge currently has 10 mentors working with these youth, but there’s always room for more! Join our Foster Care missions team to learn more about The Champion Project and begin the mentorship process.
