At WoodsEdge, we deeply believe in living out our faith through meaningful service and consistent prayer. Our community groups are the heartbeat of this mission, actively engaging every month in Serve & Pray nights. These events unite multiple community groups—typically three to four at a time—to meet tangible needs and intercede in prayer for our local ministry partners. This beautiful partnership demonstrates what true community and active faith can accomplish together.
This past fall, we witnessed remarkable acts of generosity and compassion through the collective efforts of our community groups. One inspiring evening, groups came together to assemble over 300 hygiene packs for Montrose Street Church and 7More ministries. These hygiene packs, filled with essential items like soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and deodorant, bring dignity and comfort to those experiencing hardships and homelessness in the Houston area.
The spirit of generosity extended beyond hygiene kits. Our community groups also prepared bathroom kits specifically for Houston Welcome Refugees, an organization dedicated to supporting newly arrived families adjusting to their new life in the United States. Additionally, we assembled graduation bags for Wings Ministry, empowering individuals as they transition from difficult life circumstances into hopeful futures. Each bag contained not only practical items but heartfelt notes of encouragement, symbolizing our community's belief in second chances and renewed opportunities.
Another highlight was our participation in the Giving Tree initiative, a seasonal event designed to bring joy to families in need during the holidays. Our community groups thoughtfully organized and packaged gifts generously donated by the WoodsEdge family. These gifts went directly into the hands of children and families, bringing smiles, joy, and a tangible expression of love.
Moreover, recognizing the importance of uplifting words and personal connection, many of our volunteers wrote personalized notes of encouragement for local ministry partners and individuals served by them. These simple yet powerful words reminded each recipient that they are seen, valued, and loved.
Our community groups didn't stop there. Recognizing the challenges facing new mothers, especially those facing financial hardship or unexpected circumstances, our groups lovingly assembled new mom bags for Journey Home and Pregnancy Assistance Center North (PACN). Each bag was carefully filled with essentials such as diapers, baby clothes, blankets, and self-care items for the mothers, symbolizing our support and prayers during these pivotal moments of life.
A particularly impactful Serve & Pray night focused on assembling cozy bags for individuals experiencing homelessness. With winter approaching, the harsh reality of spending cold nights outdoors becomes more severe. Understanding this need, our groups prepared 100 cozy bags filled with warm socks, gloves, blankets, snacks, and handwritten notes of encouragement. These bags were delivered just before a significant cold front hit Houston, ensuring those receiving them felt warmth and care exactly when they needed it most.
Beyond the tangible acts of service, these nights are deeply spiritual and relational experiences. Every assembly session is paired with prayer, intentionally lifting up each recipient, ministry partner, and the needs of our community. Prayer unites us in purpose, deepens our empathy, and strengthens our community bonds, reminding us that every act of kindness is infused with divine purpose.
Community group leaders regularly share how these Serve & Pray events not only impact the recipients but profoundly shape the volunteers themselves. Participants leave with a renewed perspective, feeling deeply connected to their faith and each other, inspired to continue serving beyond these monthly gatherings.
